Natural disasters in Switzerland
Devastating storms have caused extensive damage in various regions of Ticino, Valais and Graubünden in recent days. Swiss Solidarity is appealing for donations to support the people in the affected regions.
In recent days and weeks, storms have caused extensive damage in various regions of Switzerland. Several people lost their lives and hundreds had to leave their homes. To help those affected, Swiss Solidarity is calling for solidarity and collecting donations. Swiss Solidarity’s aid is focussed on supporting private individuals in the worst-affected areas.
The images from the devastated areas are deeply moving. We are experiencing a huge wave of solidarity from the people on the ground, but also from other regions. Our appeal is a sign of the solidarity of the entire Swiss population with the people in need.Miren Bengoa, Director

Swiss Solidarity can provide an initial amount for emergency aid. This aid bridges the most difficult bottlenecks of the affected families. In a second step, any remaining costs of the damaged houses or other material damage will be paid out after the insurance companies have settled their accounts. Swiss Solidarity is liaising with various municipalities in order to coordinate its aid.
Swiss Solidarity’s aid in the event of natural disasters in Switzerland is a supplement to the aid provided by the public sector and insurance companies. It is primarily used where there are gaps in the system, the effects of the disaster justify it and Swiss Solidarity can utilise the donations collected efficiently.
If the donations received by Swiss Solidarity exceed the requirements, the remaining amount is allocated to our domestic natural disaster fund. This fund covers damage caused by severe weather to private individuals in the event of minor events in Switzerland.
