Gaza
The recent signing of a ceasefire and the partial opening of borders are finally allowing humanitarian aid to be stepped up after nearly two years of devastating attacks and a blockade imposed by the Israeli army on Gaza. Solidarity is more essential than ever to help the exhausted civilian population.

Current situation: October 2025

- The ceasefire marks a turning point after nearly two years of devastating attacks and a blockade imposed by the Israeli army on Gaza and allows internally displaced persons to return to their homes.
- The partial opening of the borders allows more humanitarian aid to be delivered.
- The situation remains dire: infrastructure destroyed, healthcare system collapsed, famine affecting the population, who are exhausted and in critical condition, dependent on external aid.
- The solidarity of the Swiss population is essential to intensify the aid provided by our Swiss NGO partners on the ground in response to the humanitarian emergency.
‘This ceasefire brings hope, but the situation remains dire. The people of Gaza are exhausted, starving, deprived of healthcare and shelter. We must act now to turn this fragile hope into concrete aid.’

Director Swiss SolidarityWhat your donation achieves.

In the short term:
Donations will enable us to step up our response to the humanitarian emergency by :
- Providing basic necessities: food, water, medicine, shelter and hygiene products.
- Strengthening medical care and mobile clinics.
- Supporting traumatised children and families with appropriate psychosocial support.
- Distributing one-off financial aid to enable families to buy locally available food and medicines.

In the medium and long term:
If the amount of donations received allows it, and the situation permits, we will be able to contribute to the reconstruction of essential infrastructure, such as health and water access facilities, schools, as well as housing.

Announcement of ‘daily pauses’ in Gaza – the humanitarian situation remains catastrophic
28.07.2025The humanitarian situation in Gaza is dramatic. The announced establishment of humanitarian corridors and daily ceasefires could enable the delivery of vital aid. However, given the scale of the need and the severity of the crisis, these measures are far from sufficient.

Gaza: a total humanitarian emergency
27.05.2025The humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip continues to deteriorate. The civilian population is at the end of its tether. There are extreme shortages of food, water, medicines and electricity. The health system has collapsed, and children are dying of malnutrition every day.
Ongoing aid through our NGO partners since 2023:
In November 2023, Swiss Solidarity launched an appeal for solidarity with the victims of escalating violence in the Middle East. Thanks to the generosity of the Swiss people, more than CHF 9 million was raised, enabling 21 humanitarian projects to be funded, including 18 in the Gaza Strip and three in Lebanon.
Until now, this aid has been limited due to considerable restrictions on access at borders and internal movement. With the cessation of hostilities and the partial opening of crossing points, our NGO partners are ready to significantly step up their aid efforts.

- Distribute food kits, drinking water and hygiene products to thousands of displaced families.
- Provide emergency medical care through mobile clinics or by supporting local facilities, including sexual and reproductive health services.
- Provide temporary shelter for people who have fled the bombings.

- Offer essential psychosocial support, particularly for children, women and adolescents who have been deeply affected by the war.
- Distribute one-off financial aid to enable families to buy locally available food and medicines.
- Support agricultural activities.
Some examples of projects we have been supporting since 2023:

We support refugee families with basic necessities and provide them with financial assistance to meet their most urgent needs. Terre des hommes also carries out child protection activities and provides psychosocial support to young children.

HEKS/EPER helps refugee families meet their basic needs, particularly when they live outside regular camps. Distributions of tarpaulins, string and adhesive tape enable them to improve their shelters, while 3,000 women and children receive psychosocial support and mental health promotion activities.

With Frieda, we focus our work on children and families. We support more than 28,000 children by offering them leisure activities that give them a break from their daily struggles. We distribute school supplies and provide education in a challenging environment. We have also set up psychosocial support for 5,000 women and children, as well as for auxiliary intervention personnel.

Together with our partner Médecins du Monde, we provide a mobile clinic that supports 5,000 people with health and maternity issues. We also distribute menstrual hygiene products to more than a thousand women and girls.
