Earthquakes in Venezuela
Following the severe earthquakes of 24 June, people in Venezuela continue to urgently need help. More than 5,000 people lost their lives, over 16,000 were injured and thousands of families lost their homes. Thanks to the strong solidarity shown in Switzerland, our partner organisations are already providing life-saving assistance on the ground.

Extensive damage and urgent humanitarian needs
The earthquakes caused severe damage, particularly in La Guaira and Caracas. Homes, health facilities, schools, as well as water and sanitation systems were damaged. Thousands of families continue to live in temporary shelters.
Humanitarian needs remain enormous: safe drinking water, medical care, food, hygiene supplies and safe shelter are urgently needed.
Our aid
In La Guaira and Caracas, several Swiss partner organisations of Swiss Solidarity are already providing emergency assistance thanks to the donations received. They are improving access to safe drinking water and sanitation facilities, distributing food and essential goods, and improving conditions in shelters for people who have lost their homes. Mobile clinics are also strengthening access to healthcare and psychosocial support.
In a next phase, donations may also contribute to recovery and reconstruction, in particular by supporting the rehabilitation of homes and essential infrastructure and the sustainable restoration of basic services.
National Day of Solidarity
On the National Day of Solidarity on Thursday, 2 July, people across Switzerland mobilised for those affected by the earthquakes in Venezuela, sending a strong message of solidarity. With the support of the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation (SRG SSR) and private radio stations, volunteers and well-known personalities took donation pledges throughout the day at call centres in Zurich, Geneva, Lugano and Chur. A total of CHF 10,032,254 was raised for humanitarian aid.
Since the National Day of Solidarity, further donations have continued to come in. Almost CHF 13 million has now been raised to support people affected by the earthquakes in Venezuela.

National Day of Solidarity for Venezuela: 10 million francs for humanitarian aid
02.07.2026At the end of the National Day of Solidarity for the victims of the earthquakes in Venezuela, 10,032,254 francs had been raised. Swiss Solidarity thanks the people of Switzerland for their great solidarity, the many volunteers and well-known personalities mobilised in the telephone centres, as well as SRG SSR for their support.
Venezuela: Swiss Solidarity organizes a national day of solidarity
30.06.2026Swiss Solidarity is calling for support for the people affected by the severe earthquakes that struck Venezuela on 24 June. A national day of solidarity will be organised on Thursday, 2 July 2026, in collaboration with the SRG SSR business units. From 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., donation pledges from the public will be received by phone at the call centres in Geneva, Zurich, Lugano and Chur.
Swiss Solidarity launches an appeal for donations following the devastating earthquakes in Venezuela
26.06.2026Two powerful earthquakes, among the most violent to hit Venezuela in more than a century, struck the country on 24 June. Although the full extent of the disaster remains uncertain, initial assessments point to a very heavy human toll that could reach into the thousands of deaths. In response to this major disaster, Swiss Solidarity is launching a nationwide fundraising campaign in support of the affected population.
