On 24 June, two devastating earthquakes struck Venezuela. They are among the most powerful the country has experienced in more than a century. While the exact scale of the disaster remains uncertain, initial assessments point to significant destruction. Swiss Solidarity is calling for solidarity with the affected population.

Earthquakes hit an already fragile country
The disaster has struck a country already facing a severe social and economic crisis. A large part of the population was already living in precarious conditions, and access to healthcare, safe drinking water, food and basic services was limited for many people.
Local infrastructure is therefore at risk of being quickly overwhelmed, while humanitarian needs are likely to increase significantly in the coming days.
Our response
We are in close contact with our Swiss NGO partners, who are preparing to rapidly deploy assistance on the ground. Initially, the response will focus on emergency relief: temporary shelter, access to safe drinking water, medical care, hygiene items and the distribution of essential goods.
Depending on how the situation evolves, support may also include longer-term measures to help affected people rebuild their lives and regain prospects for the future.

Swiss Solidarity launches an appeal for donations following the devastating earthquakes in Venezuela
25.06.2026Two powerful earthquakes, among the most violent to hit Venezuela in more than a century, struck the country on 24 June. Although the full extent of the disaster remains uncertain, initial assessments point to a very heavy human toll that could reach into the thousands of deaths. In response to this major disaster, Swiss Solidarity is launching a nationwide fundraising campaign in support of the affected population.
