In collaboration with the SSR units and private radio stations, Swiss Solidarity has collected 6.4 million francs in donations today, on the occasion of the national day of solidarity in favour of the victims of the violent earthquake that occurred in Southeast Asia. These funds will be used to step up the aid already being provided by Swiss NGO partners of Swiss Solidarity in Burma, one of the countries hardest hit.
The call centres in Geneva, Zurich, Chur and Lugano were open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. With the support of numerous volunteers and well-known personalities, Swiss Solidarity once again mobilised solidarity throughout the country. At the end of the day, donations amounted to 6,357,329 francs. Swiss Solidarity also received numerous messages of support and solidarity from the people of Switzerland.
Donations for the benefit of the victims can still be made online at: www.swiss-solidarity.org
