Strong mobilisation in Switzerland
On 28 March 2025, a 7.7-magnitude earthquake hit Southeast Asia, particularly Myanmar, a country already weakened by years of conflict, forced displacement and the collapse of essential services. The central regions of the country, especially Sagaing and Mandalay, were among the hardest hit. The earthquake destroyed many houses, water infrastructure, hospitals and schools, plunging millions of people into a severe humanitarian crisis.
In response to the scale of the disaster, the Swiss Solidarity Foundation held a national day of solidarity on 8 April 2025. Thanks to this collective effort, CHF 7,681,077 was raised, enabling the financing of vital emergency assistance for affected communities.

Concrete aid made possible by donations
To date, donations have supported 14 humanitarian projects implemented by 9 Swiss partner NGOs. In total, 230,000 people have received assistance.
Concretely, donations have made it possible to:
- provide financial support to tens of thousands of families to cover their basic needs;
- deliver emergency shelter and support housing repairs;
- rehabilitate water points, build latrines and distribute hygiene kits;
- provide food assistance to particularly vulnerable families;
- deploy mobile medical consultations and offer psychosocial support to thousands of traumatised people;
- rehabilitate schools and distribute school kits.
More than CHF 5.3 million has already been allocated. Assistance continues to support affected communities in their recovery.
