Blatten (VS): Solidarity with affected people

28.05.2025

The village of Blatten in the Valais has been hit by a massive landslide caused by the partial collapse of the Birch glacier, destroying a large part of the village. Swiss Solidarity is expressing its solidarity with those affected and is ready to support them with its permanent "Disasters in Switzerland" fund.

The landslide in Blatten (VS) caused significant damage. Fortunately, residents had been evacuated on 19 May. In the face of this tragedy, we express our solidarity and stand ready to support those affected through our permanent fund for disasters in Switzerland.

Funds available for emergencies
Thanks to this fund, Swiss Solidarity can respond quickly to disasters such as the one in Blatten. At this stage, no national appeal for donations is planned, as the available resources should be sufficient to cover the needs not covered by insurance, the Fonds Suisse and public authorities. However, we are continuing to monitor the situation very closely and will adjust our assistance in line with the actual needs of those affected.

Assistance for those affected will be coordinated with the Swiss Red Cross and Caritas, with whom initial discussions have already taken place. We will provide regular updates on our support on our website and in our annual report.
