01.2022 as we saw it
“The work we do on a daily basis is guided by our commitment to timeliness, transparency and efficiency. In response to the challenges of the current crises, Swiss Solidarity is present wherever solidarity is required.”

Miren Bengoa
Director of Swiss Solidarity
“Swiss Solidarity has once again fulfilled its role by raising public awareness and being the preferred channel for solidarity in Switzerland. For this we are both grateful and proud, and we are doing our utmost to provide appropriate aid while guaranteeing the quality of interventions on the ground.”

Pascal Crittin
President, Swiss Solidarity and Director, RTS
02.The year in review
“We witnessed an extraordinary surge of solidarity in 2022. This not only made our fundraiser for victims of the war in Ukraine the second most successful in our history, but also led to the huge success of our campaign for people facing hunger in East Africa.”

Judith Schuler
Director of Communications and Fundraising
“In 2022, Swiss Solidarity’s partner NGOs again demonstrated their expertise and efficiency and the relevance of their work to deliver aid to those affected by humanitarian crises. Thanks to them, we have made a difference for millions of people. In Switzerland, our partners made it possible for us to help those who are most vulnerable.”

Ukraine
The widespread bombing and destruction of civilian infrastructure that has been taking place since the war began has had a dramatic social and economic impact on Ukraine. In the face of this disaster, an almost unprecedented surge of solidarity led to the second most successful fundraising outcome of our history.

Testimonial
She is only two years old, but little Sofia has already endured many traumas. Forced to flee her home village in early April, Sofia and her mother Tetiana, 22, found refuge in Zaporijjia. Unfortunately, Sofia’s father was unable to accompany them and keeping in touch with him is a challenge, as he has limited access to the internet or a phone.
Today, Sofia and Tetiana live with the sound of air-raid sirens, a constant reminder that the war is ongoing. Thanks to our funding, our partner NGOs on the ground have been able to help families like Sofia and Tetiana to flee the front lines.

Pakistan
In 2022, Pakistan was devastated by the worst floods in 30 years. The donations we raised not only funded emergency aid projects, but also helped to address disease and malnutrition.

East Africa
In 2022, we decided to sound the alarm on the food crisis in the Horn of Africa, the results of a historic drought, rising food prices due to the war in Ukraine, and conflicts ravaging this region. Our efforts focused on the parts of Somalia, Ethiopia and Kenya where the humanitarian needs were the greatest.

Daki’s story
Ever since her husband died, Daki has lived with her four children in Kebele, Ethiopia. The drought forced her to sell her 42 head of cattle. The animals were severely impacted by the lack of food. This desperate situation forced Daki to leave her home region with her children. Today, she lives in a camp for displaced persons, where she receives emergency aid. Our partner NGOs help people who are especially vulnerable, such as the elderly, the sick, the disabled and single women.

International child relief
Many children missed nearly two years of schooling during the COVID-19 pandemic in Latin America and South Asia. The 20 projects carried out focused primarily on ensuring access to education and encouraging children to return to school.

05.Activities in Switzerland
Our commitment to vulnerable people in Switzerland focuses on three different issues: children who are victims of violence, the social and professional integration of young people, and homeless and marginalised people. In 2022, in close collaboration with RTS, we organised a week of solidarity for vulnerable children and families as part of our Cœur à Cœur campaign.
