The escalation of the conflict in the Middle East over the last few weeks has caused great suffering to the civilian population, resulting in thousands of deaths and countless injured. Given the current situation, we are facing a humanitarian catastrophe. We wish to express our solidarity with those affected who are suffering the consequences of this conflict.
At the moment, because of the blockade, the capacity of our partners on the ground to act is extremely limited. However, we are making 1.2 million Swiss francs available from our emergency aid fund, with which we can finance projects by our Swiss partner organisations on the ground as soon as possible. Several of our Swiss partner organisations are currently in the Gaza Strip, including cfd, Terre des Hommes, MSF, Save the Children, HEKS and Médecins du Monde. We are in constant contact with our partner organisations to assess the needs and possibilities for aid, so that we can react quickly to any changes.
Our emergency fund enables us to fund projects in severe humanitarian situations that do not meet the criteria for a national solidarity campaign, such as when there is a need to clarify the presence or possibility of action by our partner NGOs. The fund enables us to react quickly and provide support in the event of major humanitarian disasters, even when no dedicated fundraising campaign exists. The activities supported by this fund include delivering food, water and basic necessities, providing access to healthcare, and installing or repairing temporary shelters.
